Data Privacy & Security

Security

Landing Zone is built on top of Ed-Fi which from the start was built with a security first focus. All Landing Zone data is transmitted over a secure, encrypted connection. Any data files that are moved as a part of the data orchestration pipelines are encrypted at rest.

Ed-Fi’s API has multiple levels of security built in. By building in a school district’s Google Cloud using Ed-Fi technologies, we ensure best in class data security with extensive privacy controls that give schools the ability to define with great granularity who should have access to what. Every Ed-Fi ODS has an accompanying API with an authentication layer via OAuth 2.0. That authorization layer allows the schools to create API key/secrets that restrict the data a consumer can create, update, and retrieve.

Data privacy

FERPA The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a Federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. The law applies to all schools that receive funds under an applicable program of the U.S. Department of Education. Landing Zone helps partner districts stay compliant with FERPA by ensuring that:

  • any sensitive online information is transmitted over secure channels.

  • all student data are stored in ways that are not publicly accessible.

  • security audits are regularly performed to ensure data integrity.

  • the school/district remains in control of all data.
